It's a sport that requires expensive equipment and time. both of which average people don't have.

“Rich people tend to work longer more hours”. This is verifiably false. Like the data doesn’t support this.

Or both? You have the money to invest in your passions as well as have the drive to pursue them. Also I’d be interested in what the median was.

As someone who does triathlons, the gear is expensive and the registration fees alone are hundreds of dollars. A good iron man bike is $10k

I’m not saying only rich people can do an Ironman, but it’s hard to call it an average-person sport when it requires so much money, gear, travel, and free time. It feels more like an elite hobby. Similar to climbing Everest, only for the rich man.

hard disagree, successful fitness people aren't always rich. rich people have free time that allows them to spend far greater time training than the average person

I think the cost to train, enter, and travel for the Tri is self-selecting.

Wealth is not built by hard work but by having access to capital and networks. It’s not say that the rich don’t work but clearly these people have advantages that allow them to do this kinda stuff.

Gonna disagree with you, dude. It's resources. They have the money and or time which means they have the resources. Maybe a nanny, housekeeper, a stay at home spouse, they can afford the gear and supplements etc. I think there is grit involved but money/time is easier first.

using average salary is very deceptive since there could've literally been 1 billionaire and the rest worth $0 and youd get that number

Lmao ORRRR it’s bc if you make 50k a year you don’t have the luxury to train all the time and buy expensive equipment. Tons of dedicated people choose careers with lower salaries. Like some doctors don’t even make 250k

There are about 75k people who finish an Ironmans per year. If all 75k made $60k, and you add Elon Musk with a $10B yearly salary, the average instantly jumps to $193k per person. One extreme outlier completely blows up the average🫣🫣
