@emacitaas: Ever since Amy was announced to be in Sonic 4, I always wondered about the kind of backstory they would give her. Knuckles, Shadow, and Sonic all have backstories that pertain to family so here's what I think COULD happen: A lot of the criticism over Amy's character in the early 2000s boiled down to her being too much. She was "too emotional", "too outrageous" , basically that she had a big personality that annoyed a lot of people. So what if that becomes an insecurity for her in the movies due to her parents abandoning her? (This probably won't happen but bare with me) Her parents abandon her because of her "big personality" and she grows up with this insecurity. And only when she meets Sonic and Team, does she find that she CAN be herself. That her personality isn't a flaw and that other people could love her just as she is. And so, Kristin Bell is announced as her voice and this scene of her's from the Good Place just seemed to fit well. I think it’d be fascinating to have Amy be an orphan or an abandoned child in the new movie because the other main characters have had people/parents care for them before they all come together to live in Green Hills. Sonic had Longclaw, Knuckles had his father/grandfather and Shadow had Maria. To have Amy be self-reliant but also eager to have a family/connections would be an interesting way to show her backstory and how she wants to be loved. But no matter how alone she was, she’d insist on sharing her love with the world.
