The point of the video is if you only have $5, this is a meal you can make with it. When you’re hungry you’re not thinking of how much carbs or protein is in it. You’re in survival mode and just need to fill your stomach up. I don’t understand the comments of where’s the protein or too many carbs. If you have never understood being rock bottom and on your last $5 then this video isn’t for you. You’re doing a great thing teaching people who need help coming up with cheap solutions. Keep it going. I’ll continue watching

I live in NYC so to feed a family of 4 on $5 seemed impossible but I am humbled by your videos. It's actually possible 😯. I know that ultra processed food is not good for kids, but neither is starvation.

Get the DG app. On Saturdays they have a $5 off $25 coupon. I believe milk is excluded, but other food is not. You can teach folks to create 5 meals for the price of 4 or use the $5 savings for some bonus ingredients.

Even if not on a "budget" economically feeding your family makes cents. Excuse the pun.

the meal has vegetables, carbs, protein. all 3 main components. no extra salt or fat. this is a filling meal and not very expensive. 100/10 fantastic job showing that balanced healthy meals don't have to be expensive. keep it up! 🥰

I remember nights when I was younger where I didn't have any food or money to purchase it. The kindness and dignity you are giving people is something else. I am going to continue to watch your videos and interact. We need more people like you.

Just out of curiosity I made this both with ingredients from dollar general and the equivalent from HEB and then let my family decide which they preferred without saying which was which and on 3 out of 4 items they preferred dollar store, especially with the sausage

I appreciate you make no assumptions about what’s at home! I’ve watched countless recipes where they assume you have oil, flour, butter, milk, obscure seasonings, etc. They may be pantry staples but if you’re working with $5 you don’t have a stocked pantry lol.

Rough estimate:
Calories: ~675 kcal
Protein: ~20g
Carbohydrates: ~85g
Fat: ~30g
When you are struggling to be food secure, the calories per dollar can't be beat here. Protip to up the protein, add one egg per serving to the rice. Many food pantries have eggs of some kind.
