@corporatedropout_mom: Effective leadership means knowing the difference between true collaboration and simply redistributing work to your most reliable employee. Mislabeling boundaries as a lack of collaboration is how high performers burn out while accountability quietly disappears. Strong managers address performance gaps directly instead of just reallocating work to a team member and gaslighting them when they push back. #corporatelife #humanresources #manager #managersbelike #officelife

“Collaborate” means “to work jointly with others,” NOT do someone else’s work for them.

I was told I don’t “exceed expectations” because I don’t help enough. When pressed for specifics, because I will not do my equivalent to 2 full time jobs plus other people’s work too. 🙄

I was told I take too much responsibility for others and that I should do less. That was my one piece of criticism in my review. So you really can’t win.

10 years at the company I work for and I have never once gotten above "meets expectations" even on the years I put together massive international projects by myself. The company just doesn't want to pay higher raises or promote anyone on my team so now I never exceed expectations. I'm not leaving because I like remote work but I'm definitely a Tina.

Stated in an exit interview once that just because I can do the work of 4 people, doesn’t mean I should do the work of 4 people.

I did what this manager wanted for a big situation at a job I worked at. I worked 14 hour days five days a week, and then one weekend day as well. I got the best review one could get that year. ...and then everyone expected me to always have infinite bandwidth for everyone else's needs - I was single with no kids, so that didn't help much either. My team lead was one of those people, especially putting in the "well x has kids, and you don't, so you're the only one available" line. I ended up going to the department manager and complaining, with documentation, and he intervened. I finally was able to catch up on my own work, and was able to assist some people, but I didn't take on other people's entire projects anymore unless it was a serious emergency.

In any smart environment this would be a really really bad day for the manager.

It's really frustrating when a manager favors someone incompetent over someone who refuses to 'collaborate'.

I tried asking for example of specific areas of improvement that I can do during a performance review, just to screw with leadership on the usual spiel that they give you. 😂🤣😁

I'm one of the first people my boss calls in an emergency. I'm also the only one not on team situations at work. she knows this. I know this. it works out.

The real issue is with the manager not either of those employees. If someone is underperforming then they need manager intervention for improvement.

Been Tina, said no, luckily I had a union to back me up. Totally sucks when management has favorites that fail to do the work so they try to dump it on the workhorses, the proven producers … for no additional pay.
