It seems like he resents the fact that she’s over him.. bc it’s clear that she loved him very deeply and he probably thought that would not change. You can see in previous interviews (before they met this last time) that his tone about her was different, probably bc deep down he thought he still had a chance.. plus, she’s been much more vocal about how things really were.
