The Quran is the foundation of Islam, not Hadith. The Quran itself commands us to follow the Prophet SAW, which is why Hadith exists. Hadith doesn’t replace the Quran, it explains and shows how to live it. The pillars of Islam are rooted in the Quran (like prayer, zakat, fasting), while Hadith gives their details (how to pray, how much zakat, etc.). So saying ‘we only learn from Hadith’ is wrong and saying ‘we don’t need Hadith’ is also wrong. Islam stands on both, the Qur’an as guidance, and Hadith as its explanation. What is the hadith? The life of the Prophet (pbuh). He received the message and the teachings, and he in turn taught us. Essentially, Allah taught him everything and sent him to teach us.

When you buy a car you have to sign an agreement between yourself and the banks. In the agreement they did not mention anything about how to operate a car, when to do maintainance and full description about that car. But the car company provides you a manual, which is how to operate a car. So all the detail about the car from front to the back, the interior and exterior, brake system and how to start a car. The Qur’an mentions prayer times in different places, for example: * Fajr (dawn prayer) and night prayer are mentioned: “Establish prayer at the decline of the sun until the darkness of the night, and also the Qur’an of dawn…” (Qur’an 17:78) * The middle prayer is mentioned: “Maintain the prayers, and [especially] the middle prayer…” (Qur’an 2:238) * Different parts of the day are mentioned: “…establish prayer at the two ends of the day and at the approach of the night…” (Qur’an 11:114)
