You say "thank you". it acknowledges them recognizing your grief without dismissing it. "it's fine" is dismissive to your grief and their sympathy for you. Same goes for when someone says "I'm sorry" in general. I taught my kids to simply say "thank you" because it's not, in facts "fine" that they hurt you or you are hurting. ❤️🩹

Most of the time I say some form of "thank you" or " It's okay, but I appreciate you saying that". If there are more questions I answer with no problem, I think of it as a way to keep their memory alive. The tricky part for me personally has always been how to answer the, " how many siblings do you have" question. It stumps me everytime.
