Ya know if Nolan is about 900 years old, then in his entire lifespan 20 years is comparative to a little less than 2 years (0.22% of his life thus far) or realistically feeling like a few months (since 20 years is around 200 - 250 years for Viltrumites). In just "2 year's" Nolan changed his entire personality, gained Compassion,adjusted speech pattern / cadence, learned appropriate reason, pursued passion and developed Love for another living being / beings. Essentially, he tried to write it off as "fling" or "meaningless temporary companionship", a "pet" but he couldn't. That explains Thraxa in my opinion, he was so lonely and trying not to think about his situation to a point he found a world that is basically watching life on 3x development speed to ensure he never had to slow down enough to truly accept his authentic self. By the time he's made that conclusion of what he's missing to fill his void and where the root of his pain comes from and he realizes it isn't failing his mission, its failing his family, its failing Debbie. She changed this mission focused war machine with less than a fraction of a percent of the time he's been alive. Talk about Love
