@ultrabasicmetamafic: Welcome back to another day of geology with Emmalee!! Today we are quickly observing some trough-cross bedding in Sandstone. The trough cross beds in this specific video are in the Curtis Formation and the Entrada Sandstone!! I am not the biggest fan of sedimentary rocks, however crossbedding is something I can get behind. In eolian (wind blown, typically desert) systems, migrating dunes leave behind these beautiful, sloping layers as sand slips down their leeward sides. Each cross-bed is essentially a frozen snapshot of an ancient dune face, or a “drag path”, so to speak, letting us read wind direction, dune movement, and understand how fast the landscape was shifting over time.
