It's real, I've got a friend who pulls the I hate small talk thing and his idea of deep talk is literally just ghosts and aliens (he gets frustrated if you don't back him up about the realness of ghosts and aliens)

i love smalltalk. it conveys that you are a safe and friendly person with minimal effort, we dont need to know everyones life story. never talked about anything other than greetings and weather with my neighbor, but when she went into labor early she knew she could ask me to watch her toddler until grandma got there. now i occasionally ask about the baby, but i really dont need to know much more than that shes my neighbor and we would help eachother out in a pinch.

Small talk is a fantastic way to test the waters to find interesting topics you can both speak intelligently on in a deeper way. You have to get to know people first though lmao
