The Prettiest Holiday Bread You’ll Ever Bake ❄️❤️ For the dough: - 500 g (4 cups) all-purpose flour - 1 packet (7 g) instant yeast or ½ cube fresh yeast - 250 ml (1 cup) lukewarm milk - 70 g (5 tbsp) soft butter - 60 g (¼ cup) sugar - 1 packet (8 g) vanilla sugar (or 1 tsp vanilla extract) - 1 egg - 1 pinch of salt For the filling: - 6–8 tbsp jam of your choice (raspberry, apricot, plum, or red currant work beautifully) - 1 tsp cornstarch (optional – helps thicken the jam so it doesn’t leak during baking) For brushing and dusting: - 1 egg yolk - 1 tbsp milk - Powdered sugar for dusting Instructions 1. Warm the milk gently (not hot). Stir in the yeast and 1 teaspoon of sugar. Let sit for 10 minutes until frothy. 2. In a large bowl, mix the flour, sugar, vanilla sugar, and salt. 3. Add the egg, soft butter, and the yeast mixture. 4. Knead everything into a smooth, elastic dough (about 8–10 minutes by hand or 5 minutes with a mixer). 5. Cover and let rise in a warm place for about 1 hour, until doubled in size. ⸻ 1. Once risen, punch down the dough and divide it into 4 equal parts. 2. Roll each piece into a circle about 28–30 cm (11–12 in) in diameter. 3. Place the first circle on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper. 4. Spread 1–2 tablespoons of jam evenly on top (leave a small border). 5. Add the next dough circle on top and repeat, finishing with the fourth circle on top, unfilled. ⸻ 1. Place a small glass or cup in the center to mark the middle. 2. Cut the dough into 16 equal sections, like cutting a pizza — but don’t cut through the center. 3. Take two adjacent sections and twist them twice outward (away from the center). 4. Pinch the ends of each pair together so they hold their shape during baking. You’ll now have a beautiful star- or snowflake-like bread. ❄️ #bakingtiktok #baketok #bakingtok #christmasbaking #christmasrecipe
