@alexsfoodieadventures: Serai is a modern Filipino restaurant in Melbourne’s CBD led by chef Ross Magnaye (ex Rice Paper Scissors), known for reimagining traditional dishes over a wood-fired grill. It opened in 2022 and quickly gained recognition as one of Australia’s standout new restaurants. The cuisine blends contemporary Filipino flavours with Australian produce, creating a vibrant, share-style dining experience. Here is an overview of everything we tried 🥢 ‘Kinilaw’ QLD swordfish, pink peppercorn, daikon: fresh, clean, super light 🍍 ‘Selat lumpia’ smoked pineapple, spiced coconut, caviar: 10/10, perfect 🌮 Wood roasted pig's head ‘sisig’ tacos, egg butter, calamansi: 10/10, amazing flavours 🍤 ‘McPrawn’ Mooloolaba king prawn, crab fat, atchara, pandesal: good, just needed more oomph. Aesthetically loved the whole prawn in but wasn’t a fan of the texture- my partner loved so it’s definitely subjective 🥩 Marble 9 wagyu, sambal, Don Papa rum jus: best steak in ages, perfect cook & char 🫓 Mindanao flat bread w/ wagyu fat: must-add, flaky, buttery, charred 🍅 ‘Ensalada lato’ heirloom tomato, seagrapes, shallot, pinakurat: great side, no faults 🍮 ‘Leche flan’, coffee & Diplomatico rum sauce: yum, huge, loved the coffee combo 🥭 Mango float, QLD mango, graham cracker, smoked cream: unique, smoky twist — love or hate The cocktails were phenomenal. Service was 10/10, food was fabulous. Definitely a tucked away spot that I will be revisiting for sure. They are busy for good reason.
