just a little tip, try not to rise whenever he trots faster, that may confuse him. i also ride a horse who just trots faster and faster before cantering and he gets confused whenever i just continue rising instead of sitting down (no hate) [yummy] you also did very good on your first canter!!

Why does everyone feel like Friesian are hard to canter? I had a lot of them and loved cantering them! Such a soft and big canter 🥰

Well done and beautiful horse. I find just cantering 4 or 5 canter strides at a time when learning is a good idea. It makes it easier to relax.

Piece of advice as a friesian rider, having longer stirrups helps a BUNCHHH cuz theyre strides are MAASIIVVVEE

ig a little tip for newer riders, before trying to canter. Its way easier to figure out how to pace your hips if you sit through their trots. keep your knees a bit tighter against the horse and feel their rhythm. Love hard riding gaits lol

I own a Friesian as well, and I totally get what you mean by the bouncy canter, they are a flashy breed but have gorgeous movement. You did great for your first canter! 💗

I feel for u , I was helping train an pacer who struggled to canter found it easier to sit and push also made life easier that he was very good with my voice commands/noices .
