I think they really should've played this scene more seriously and accurately to the source, ESPECIALLY the "I don't wanna die." I also wish they didn't remove the plot device of the 1 in 7000 gene, because it makes him feel all the more underqualified and explains why they didn't train more people for the world's most important Mission. I think the setup of them noting early on that he has the right DNA pays off so nicely later. W foreshadowing.
