@biolayne: The Most Overhyped Supplements of All Time! Here’s my list… BCAAs → unnecessary if you eat enough protein Glutamine → poor bioavailability & doesn’t build muscle HMB → minimal benefit for most trained people L-arginine → poor bioavailability (there are better options) Ecdysterone / Turkesterone → hype >> human data Electrolytes → not magic unless you actually need them. Might seem weird to be on this list since I sell an electrolyte supplement with my company @outworknutritionofficial but the list is ‘overhyped.’ Electrolytes work great if you train intensely for long periods of time, in heat, or lose a lot of sweat. But they are being marketed to CEOs who sit behind a desk. That is complete BS. Electrolytes won’t do sh*t for sedentary people. “Advanced” creatines → marketing > results (monohydrate wins & is WAY cheaper) Test boosters → mostly useless Collagen → not a muscle-building protein, absolute worst amino acid profile of ANY protein source for muscle That doesn’t mean all supplements are useless — just that most are oversold and misunderstood. If you want supplements that actually work, you need to filter signal from noise. I break all of this down (with actual data) in this episode of the Dr. Layne Norton Podcast 🎙️. Available on all podcast platforms If you care about evidence-based nutrition and not wasting money on BS…

Protein supplements don’t repair your joint cartilage but type 2 collagen does. So unless you’re eating ground beef everyday it’s not overhyped and you should definitely take it with your whey protein.

At 14 I developed severe Gerd. At the age of 27 or so I tried glutamine having been told it could help with recovery. Within a month it did WAY more than that. I can eat grilled chicken, steak, pasta and even chick FIL a French fries without throwing up after years of being dependent on ultra strength rolaids hoping I wouldn't throw up my money down the drain after a date or a great meal.

I’m a 68 yo mom of 4 who has been lifting for 37 years. Creatine and collagen peptides have been game changers for me. My lean muscle mass percentage at my age speaks to the efficacy of these supplements for ME. I lift heavier now and am stronger than I was in my 30’s, 40’s & 50’s.

Collagen is good for skin, but not joints or muscle. Test boosters, I feel, are good for libido but, again, does nothing for muscle!

I hate how one particular brand adds HMB to creatine to try and sell it for a premium price; it's Transparent Labs BTW
