@goliathliftzz: In 1904, a skinny immigrant named Angelo Siciliano arrived in New York from Italy. Small and weak, he suffered beatings from bullies and even members of his own family. Determined to change his life, he became inspired by statues of Hercules and other mythological heroes he saw in a museum. Too poor to afford barbells, he invented his own training method — later known as Dynamic Tension, where muscles resisted each other to build strength. The system worked. Siciliano, later known as Charles Atlas, transformed his physique, performed in circuses, modeled for statues of American heroes, and won titles such as “The World’s Most Perfectly Developed Man.” With the help of English naturopath Frederick Tilney and marketer Charles Roman, Atlas turned his training system into a mail-order course that built a multimillion-dollar bodybuilding business. For generations, his famous advertisements appeared in comic books and magazines, inspiring millions of young men to start training. Long before social media or modern gyms, one immigrant’s idea helped spread the culture of building the body. #bodybuildinghistory #physicalculture #charlesatlas #oldschoolbodybuilding #goliathliftzz
