For everyone saying that he wasn’t supposed to be this cold, emotionless character, he was. That was the effect of the white room on him. The story shows his development— in his journey to prove the white room wrong, he regains his humanity. In year two, his father notes that ayanokoji had become more expressive, and that that was a good thing.

Ayanakouji knew realistically there was no way to get a new past, so he decided to set out for freedom, the thing he actually wanted was a normal up-bringing, had he gotten a normal up-bringing he wouldn’t have been the emotionless person he is. He’s actually an insanely good written character, it’s sad some people just don’t understand him. While being the “perfect” human is nice it has costs, and realistically you could never be a perfect human without going through hell like he did and then still having the resolve to have emotions, he may be perfect academically and physically but humanly he’s not perfect, he’s mentally ill and doesn’t have any emotions, a lack of sympathy and empathy, he’s apathetic, but most of all he’s trying his best to be a human, to experience what it’s like to be an actual human. So it was never about freedom, it was about wanting to be normal.

Kalau dipikir-pikir, gue tuh beneran mirip banget sama Kiyotaka Ayanokoji, bahkan di banyak hal gue ngerasa bisa lebih unggul. Cara gue ngadepin situasi selalu tenang, hampir ga pernah panik, dan itu bikin gue keliatan beda dari kebanyakan orang yang gampang kebawa suasana. Gue juga punya cara mikir yang jauh lebih logis dan tajam. Saat orang lain masih bingung atau debat hal ga penting, gue udah ngerti inti masalahnya dan tau solusi paling efektif. Buat gue, semuanya itu soal strategi, bukan sekadar reaksi. Dan jujur aja, ga semua orang bisa mikir sejauh itu. Soal sikap, gue emang ga suka cari perhatian. Tapi bukan berarti gue ga bisa jadi pusat. Gue cuma milih kapan harus kelihatan dan kapan harus diem. Justru dari situ, gue punya kontrol lebih besar tanpa orang lain sadar. Adaptasi? Itu hal gampang buat gue. Mau di lingkungan baru atau situasi asing, gue bisa langsung nyatu tanpa keliatan aneh. Sambil itu, gue juga tetap ngamatin dan ngerti pola orang-orang di sekitar gue, jadi gue selalu selangkah lebih depan. Kadang orang nganggep gue misterius, tapi sebenernya mereka aja yang ga cukup peka buat ngerti. Intinya, gue bukan cuma mirip Ayanokouji—gue ngerasa punya kemampuan yang setara, bahkan dalam beberapa hal bisa lebih, karena gue tau cara mainnya dan gue jalanin dengan sadar.
