@court_halverson: 📖 Book Review: Lady Tan's Circle of Women by Lisa See Tan Yunxian, raised by her grandmother to become a female doctor in ancient China, is trained in the art of women’s medicine and forms a deep bond with a midwife named Meiling. But after entering an arranged marriage, she is forbidden from practicing medicine or maintaining her friendships, forcing her to choose between the life expected of her and the calling she was raised to follow, helping other women. ✨ What I loved: No notes...this book completely blew me away. This was a time period I wasn’t very familiar with, and Lisa See’s writing made me feel like I was right there. While it was difficult at times to read about the realities these women faced, foot binding, the immense pressure to have a son, and their lack of freedom, the relationships they built with one another were so powerful and beautiful. 😬 What didn’t quite work for me: Nothing.
