I don’t know because I have a genuine love for history, past wars, etc. I used to love writing the essays given by my history teacher. Typically about the world wars and Hiroshima, etc. It taught me for the most part America is a mess though

see I wouldn't say I love the French revolution. a lot of people died. it was a huge struggle for the empoverished and it was awful. but I AM fascinated by the works that came out of that, the speeches and the evolution of a government. I don't agree with a lot of it, same way I am fascinated by the story of the US independence, but also understand and mourn that it wasn't a success for ALL people and that the constitution at the time of its inception (and even now) still kept folks in harms way. as a Puerto Rican who wishes for independence, this is fascinating contextually with that experience.
but if a guy walks up to me and goes "oh the us totally fucked up spain with the Spanish American war" and leaves it there... yeah I have cut friends out because of that thought. because you're right, theyre not there to think critically. and yeah, there's technological advances that occur even in war, "necessity is the mother of invention" and all that. but you CANNOT divorce that from the real human impact.
