@emilyt_therapy: Replying to @k_hoffman2 short answer: they should, but they often don’t 😣 (only if the ROI has been obtained)———————————————————— #inpatientmentalhealth #MentalHealth #socialwork #socialworkersoftiktok #therapistsontiktok
I typically only get a call informing me they are being discharged and asking me to call back with their next appointment but no collaboration while they are there!

Thanks for this— I was recently involuntarily admitted and my therapist was involved in it and still was never contacted by the inpatient team which I thought was wild.

Wouldn’t that be highly dependent on a release being on file/consent for them to communicate with your therapist?

Emily ♡ BPD & CPTSD Therapist :
If you’re hospitalized and want your therapist contacted, make sure you ask your treatment team to do that! Pressure helps 😅

What if there is no ROI in place? Wouldn’t that be a HIPPA violation for the hospital to reach out to a therapist without a patient requesting them to contact their therapist and signing a ROI?

For mine they always let the psychiatrist know who I work with so I know, but if they didn’t I wouldn’t know

every time I have been hospitalized they have called my therapist and talked with her about it and than also at discharge they call. I have even been able to talk to my therapist at a few hospitals over the phone.

What if the therapist just leaves it to you to make the decision in the hospital or respite to deal with it…and then just contact them when you are out for another appointment.

They usually deny the patient the ability to call even though that would be the best source of collateral evidence.

. implied consent is evil

if the therapist is the one that got someone hospitalized you can pretty much say goodbye to that therapeutic alliance
