Fewer layers and smaller teams in combination sounds just like smaller organizations. Yes, running leaner is generally more efficient. That's not news...

Oof. This feels like it's not going to age well. Less clarity is never a good thing. Lack of clarity always creates problems, even if they're not recognizable until much, much later.
Just because something sounds good doesn't mean it tracks with how humans expect to be treated. We also need to acknowledge that just because everyone can do something doesn't mean that's what they were hired to do. And wanting them to master a tool they weren't hired to use doesn't mean they're going to. This all smacks of founders and senior leaders speaking at a level far removed from the actual experience of their people.

This is manifesting in an interesting way for startups, by the way: smaller teams + AI augmentation means less hierarchy, faster speed, and less capital needed to get a venture off the ground. Which means less investment needed, which means a smaller exit requirement … which means a whole different structure for early estate adventures . AI’s impact on an organization changes that dynamic of the entire startup landscape.

He said nothing of governance, enterprise organizations, particularly those under a heavy regulatory environment. Can’t just throw it out.

I told my Pm manager that more AI tooling… Designers eventually become PMs or at least a specialized kind of PM. He flinched, disliked it. “Blurring” for me not for thee

while i get the protoype thing. it doesnt actually address all the "what ifs" i actually think more documentation is better as it helps the ai write the tests it needs to realy build a feature

I agree mostly but PRDs are even more useful with AI. They such useful context to it and keeps it directly on track while building. They help humans understand things. They are also easy to maintain now

Unfortunately these 3 things don’t all happen at once. Chaos reigns before the dust settles and steady state emerges. The too much engineer throughput for 1 PM to handle was already happening before AI. Ai might be the straw that breaks PMs back. Godspeed to the poor PM that has to survive before team size changes are made.

I think this may be short lived while new roles evolve with the velocity we’ve found in AI. Also people have a hard time without role structure. It leads to fatigue

PRDs as much as I loathe them and would love to see them die are alignment contracts across teams. Unfortunately I’m Not sure prototypes replace that but would love to be proven wrong.

This indicates they are in fact not figuring it, have no clue what to do, and are reverting to startup style chaos to work through it...
