@realcodiesanchez: Is the "easy" answer actually making us less capable? Recent studies into brain science suggest there is a significant difference between researching a topic and asking a bot for the result. Check out BigDeal Podcast to watch the full episode.

Hmm 🤔 I disagree… only from what I see, you still have to literally give it all the info for it to compile it properly. Even at that, it doesn’t always compile properly and you have to drill down till you get what you want out of it. Just my personal experience.

well I disagree. yes it removes the need to process and summarize but now it help you focus on higher level decision making. There by helping you focus on what matters. Use to take hours to gather information, process and summarize, befor I can get to the decision part.

Way too oversimplified answer. This does not apply to everyone. Also, if you don’t use or know how to use AI for work, you are left behind. It is inevitable that you have to integrate this into your work. This sort of information mislead people and make them shy away from starting to use AI. It’s not smart if you keep doing the same thing that AI can do it faster and better than you can. If you want to keep your brain active, there are activities for that.

I have to disagree on this. I’ve spent 8 months learning to build a software business from scratch and solo. I’ve learned an entirely new way to ask questions and to collaborate with AI. I think you have to look at the individual and how they use it. If you ask a question, you get an answer but if you ask it to collaborate, there is an entire entirely different output. Pressure testing outputs is part of good engineering. What a time to be alive.

People in the comments are disagreeing with a study with actual evidence. EEG brain scans compared cognitive load & brain connectivity.

This is a very misleading take on this study. The study said that people writing essays with AI couldn’t recall the essay points much later. Duh. If you use AI as a creative tool, it does the opposite

That’s so true. Recently I found myself being AI impaired. I couldn’t even write a line. My mind was completely dependent on it. That was scary for me. It feels like AI is being smarter and we are being dumber. If things go like this in the long run, we will surrender for AI and at some point we can’t live without AI. It is also making us not to work towards perfection. We do the bare minimum, we don’t challenge our brains to do their best. Instead, sometimes we do our worst and ask the AI to fix our problems. This is really scary for me and it’s better if we let our brains work

This is not accurate in my opinion, because it's a general "research." It depends on how you choose to use an AI (LLM). There's a big difference in how you use it, and people need to know how to use it. An instruction manual is needed.

I disagree. I think it depends on if you ask a question and get a response and leave it there. I've used Claude to help me develop plans where we go back and forth with pros/cons which may lead to other questions and conversation

I can see this for sure, but also I think when used as a tool to strong skill sets and knowledge it can save time and therefore leave more for production and in person efforts!

I believe that's true but also you're wasting time with Google because you have to sift through ads and all kinds of different things you need to answer the question or just go complete. Something else AI is the way to go.

Critical thinking comes from asking questions from multiple angles. AI just accelerates getting to the physical answer you’re seeking. Information informational warfare speed is everything. And you want o unload your cognitive load with silly tasks to focus on bigger items. That’s what AI is doing. There is zero way to process the billions of points of data and not develop an inherent bias by the limited information you consume

As an educator this has been going on for years when compared to using an encyclopedia and google. When comparing those two it lowers a student’s problem solving skills which inhibits the brain from mastery bc they didn’t have to work hard/long enough to retain it. She is just not comparing those two things.
