The original idea behind DART was to make an underground subway system similar to NYC’s. But as you can imagine that’s a lot more expensive than above-ground trains so they did the above-ground light rail in the 90’s as a sort of stop gap thing until they could go all underground. They never went all underground. It still gets talked about but never gets anywhere. Seeing as how DART was nearly legislated out of existence a few months ago, the issue is that anything they do involves taxes and people don’t want to pay it.

Wrong. Atlanta has a whole subway system. So does Miami. Also that isnt a “subway” station, just because its underground

Went to this late at night when I was in Dallas for work (I make a point to never use uber and only use public transportation if possible) and I had never been to whataburger and the map said there was one near this DART station. I didn’t realize it was an underground station. When I got out there was literally only 1-2 other people in the station. It was one of the eeriest places I’ve ever been. None of the escalators worked so I was shattered by the time I got to street level. Got my burger and an uber back to the hotel bc I was simply not willing to walk all the way down the stairs again and wait lol

There’s a second DART underground station that was excavated but never finished if you look closely on your ride into town you can see where the Knox-Henderson station is!

when I was a kid, those escalators would always breakdown and we would have the walk up the stairs because the elevators always smelled like pee
