If you like the Thing you should watch The Hidden. Amazing underated movie in the same vein.

it would have to be a sequel to the sequel of the thing... the true sequel was a just for pc game. not sure how they could put all of that into a single movie

I'd rather have a sequel than a re-make so there's that 😅

The Dark Wolf :
If it got a real sequel and didn’t fumble it, it could bring back paranoia horror where you don’t trust anyone, which hits way harder today and honestly might fix how watered down modern horror feels. Just my two cents.

The Thing is THE standard of horror movies for me. It perfectly encapsulates how some situations can make rational people do irrational things. It is the perfect horror movie for me, the acting, story, practical effects. IMO it is John Carpenter's best work.

Personally I think they would have to hit everything perfectly to have a chance at a decent sequel, top notch casting, director and definitely practical effects. Id love some more lore expansion i.e. origin etc but its got so much to live up to, be like trying to remake Princess Bride.

I feel like The Thing is one of those ones that should not be touched. No sequel. If the cast and script is solid, MAYBE. But I feel it's too long after the original to have it be worth doing a sequel now.

I think the original has one of the best grasps on the desperation that stems from isolation, whilst keeping the cause of that isolation (remote research station) believable. But it does feel like it covered all the bases, hence the issue you mentioned in the prequel. I feel like a sequel would have to move away from that location to work on its own merit, but that also moves away from why it worked so well. Tough one, will depend a lot on director.

I personally it rather not be touched, the ambiguous ending of the original is what makes it so perfect. Sometimes less is more and just should be left alone.

Whoever produced/directed "Welcome To Derry" should work on it, or maybe the A24 Films people. Guillermo delToro would be amazing as well.

I would agree with you, Alistair. I’m not a big fan of sequels. They should’ve just left the thing alone.

The Thing still gives me the creeps every time I watch it. Wouldn't trust a sequel after that prequel honestly. Horror nowadays just have a different vibe
