I spent $1500 to go to a wedding in Mississippi once (where I grew up). I’m spending basically the same amount to go to a wedding in Italy this summer. Yeah I’d prefer Italy

I have a HUGE family, so I decided to have my dream wedding in the south of France. We had a whole ass chateau for the entire weekend for $40K. All 50 of our guests stayed at the chateau with us for the weekend and we hosted a welcome dinner, the wedding, and day after brunch there. All of our guests were so happy to come and made their own Eurotrip around our wedding. If they want to be there, they will 💕

Mostly agreed, with one additional caveat: you don’t get to say a WORD of complaint about people not coming if you do this. You don’t get to claim the people who didn’t/couldn’t come don’t care about you or your wedding. Put simply, you don’t get to use your expensive destination wedding as a litmus test for the people who care about you. If you do, that says FAR more about you than them.

My husband was invited solo to a destination wedding this month in Portugal. Unfortunately, we didn’t have the extra disposable income to cover it (we just bought a house) so he had to regretfully decline and his friend has not spoken to him since. So if you’re going to have a destination wedding, don’t take offense when people can’t go either.
