Hot take. Suicide education is prevention. Law enforcement should have the highest amount of education as possible

Please be mindful that many departments of law enforcement are actually trained in suicide intervention. When we as therapists make content using absolutes, that can be harmful. There are many lives that have been saved by law enforcement in these instances.

EMS should be expanded to cover mental health matters. Police should exist to enforce the law and maintain public order.

I wish we had a crisis team, call for emergency response medical - they can go to the hospital with ems

Hot take as EMS it is not my job to go into places with individuals that are potentially armed. I agree cops do not always handle things correctly, but as EMS I am unarmed. It’s not my role to risk getting shot or stabbed during a MH crisis. Cops clear the scene

please be mindful sometimes it all depends on who responds to the call when my college counselor had to call for me because I was a danger to myself she said imma be honest I don't know who's gonna come wether it be a mental health crisis team an ambulance or a cop it ended up being a cop and on another time it was an ambulance it all depends on what resources your area has

If the country invested more in social work, we would have mediators. De-escalators. Board certified behaviorists. THEY should be involved in suicide prevention.

That’s why I’m glad we get to help as EMTs… I am genuinely there to help you, whether it be in life or death, or psychologically, my job is to save lives, not threaten them.

I work as a suicide prevention worker. In some cases we do call 911 for the security of the person. But that’s in rare cases, if the person has an imminent plan of suicide and doesn’t want to or can’t cooperate in a safety plan.

As a 988 counselor I agree. Beyond very dangerous situations, mobile crisis teams or safety plans are the best!

push for community driven programs. Tulsa, OK has COPES which is a cop, a firefighter, and a licensed mental health professional that respond to calls like that
