@chemclassrules: the #methyleneblue bottle demonstration, in which a solution of sodium hydroxide and dextrose are able to reduce normally blue methylene blue to a colorless form of the molecule. shaking the solution introduces oxygen, which oxidizes the methylene blue back to its normal, brilliantly blue self. as the solution sits, the dextrose and sodium hydroxide get back to work reversing the reaction. the solution can cycle back and forth from 10 to like 40 or so times (depending on the initial amounts used) before the dextrose is used up. interestingly, the solution turns somewhat amber during the "colorless" phase as the solution gets "tired" from cycling, and if allowed to sit overnight it will lock into a deep crimson color. #Science #chemistry #lab #scienceexperiments
ugh, i definitely mispronounced methylthioninium, oh well. really hoping someone gets the 2 solution puns in the voiceover

It looks like the solution was getting mixed but I don't see a spinner thing in it. How?

I always teach it as LEO says GER lose electron oxidized, gain electron reduced

This is a clear example as to why our ancestors believed in magic, wizards and witches. Always top notch demos with explanations, bro 🤘🏻🤘🏻

Will this work forever or will the reaction stop working eventually? I was just thinking if you made it a desk toy or as a focus timer in a sealed container.

I used to be “surprise” pee tested on pretty regularly scheduled intervals. I always wanted to take some of this before the test. Just to see their reaction.

I chose the other path :
Isn’t the methylene blue just pushed out because it looks like it is floating on top?

If you were able to fill the non-liquid part of the flask with 100% pure oxygen, would it change anything?

Is this like truly reversible? Would the dextrose run out of electrons eventually? I'm sure the oxygen won't run out, cause it gets released again and nothing is converting it right? So can we make this into like a shelf stable magic vile?? 👀
