1000% agree with you. We are also not treated like other medical providers. We spend more time with our patients than any other doctor, yet our hourly reimbursement rate is way lower.

Genuine question from a current grad student, I don’t mean this to be combative at all: I’ve heard this same opinion held by generally every licensed clinician I’ve met. In your perspective, why do you think that licensed therapists have not organized and unionized or taken collective action against some of this? I start my practicum soon, and still have years until I’m licensed, but it’s been eye opening and disappointing not only to learn about all these corrupt systems, but that I have heard no empowering discussions to us future clinicians about what’s currently being done to fix inequities in the system, or much hope for us coming in. Aside from encouragement to go into private practice. I don’t have answers and am just curious your thoughts

You are so right. I’ve been in this field for over forty years and I’m not making anything close to what people my age in other fields have made. They are retiring with a pension and retirement. I have nothing.

Yesss totally agree! It can be a harm to the client for us to stop seeing them cuz they move out of state or just go on vacation. My Supervisor just got denied by Cigna Insurance cuz they are not a Therapist under Headway. They are private practice. Like whattttt.

I worked three years to become a registered play therapist, certification only lasted one year and I had to pay them again.. in order to say I am a RPT on my profile. Even though I completed the full 10k program bc after the training costs and the consultation fees for those 3 years it came close to 10k spent on those gd letters after my name but I have to pay another 200 every single year just to keep those letters on my marketing
