@mountaininthemist: Sore socks are nasty! But wire can actually help eliminate that issue if the cages are kept clean and tidy. 🐰 The problem is the build-up of urine and 💩. Not the wire! What are your thoughts? 🤔 #homesteading #meatrabbits #raisingrabbits #rabbitry #rabbitmeat

I do not currently see a future where I will raise meat rabbits, but I’m such a nerd and love learning about animal husbandry.

We have nesting boxes in our cages and I SWEAR all they do is poop in them 😭 only one of my ladies doesn't potty in them. I might just take the OSB board cut a rectangle and lay it down like you have it. We raise meat rabbits so I'm not really worried about long-term more so just comfort and not wasting the hay as well 😭

The rabbits in this type of cage housing can neither move in a species-appropriate way, nor dig, nor engage in any activity that could even remotely be described as appropriate to their natural behavior. It is and remains animal cruelty, and it is deeply morally reprehensible and repulsive.

theres multiple studies showing it gives them sore hocks and ulcers. you're saying they get sore hocks from urine build up on the wire, but then in the next sentence say wire prevents that. so which is it? it builds up or it doesn't?

poor foot fur covering is the main cause of soar halks. it is absolutely a genetic trait and a common issue in poorly bred pet rabbits. this is why pet owners think wire bottom cages are bad. its their ignorance.

That's not entirely true. With regular hygiene and daily mucking out, it's not a problem. What really causes severe hooves is incorrect pressure distribution when sitting, due to a surface that's too hard, such as wire

this is INCORRECT information. Wire is actually extremely bad for their feet and hocks. Without proper support, the thick fur on the bottoms of their feet thins = sore hocks. Wire is not a suitable flooring for rabbits
