first of all thats not what u use a cube for, second u got pretty much the same amount of polygons on both versions and pressing s on each rings doesnt take much longer than placing vertices

if ONLY subdivision had a way to make the surface stick to the outline of edge loops but i GUESS we'll never be able to do that, it would be so fun to just press SHIFT + E and just choose the degree of crease we WANT
