my son was taken to a mental hospital on his 21st birthday and diagnosed a week later. in 2022 he lost his insurance so he stopped taking his meds. by the time we realized it tried to help him (he was living with his gf), he had a crisis and called the police for help. he was arrested and left that jail in a body bag. #justiceforjaylan

My brother was diagnosed with schizophrenia at 17. He is now 52 years old and lives a very happy independent and productive life. Miracle drug Colozaril, family love, dedication and support❤️God is able.

Hearing this truly saddens me learning that Donny Hathaway went undiagnosed with mental illness, and that Phyllis Hyman also struggled in silence, is a painful reminder of how often these issues go unseen and unsupported. As a community, we have to do better at acknowledging mental health, creating safe spaces for people to speak openly, and showing real, consistent support so no one feels they have to suffer alone.

My brother passed away 4/25/2026 and he was diagnosed with schizophrenia. He was 39. I cried the last time I saw him because I just wanted him to get better.
