People didn’t get this episode? This is my favorite one because it’s the first time that Rick is called out so hard that he can’t do anything but sit in silence after that. He knew the therapist was right

Always thought that the therapist was the only one who really could read Rick and see that he fundamentally is neither in control and also massively afraid.

The Pickle Rick episode was never truly about Rick being a pickle. It was about the lengths Rick would go to avoid the hard, boring work it takes to actually deal with a deeper issue rather than just making it go away by causing an unrelated problem without ever actually acknowledging it. Even if the unrelated problems often spiral completely out of control, Rick is far more comfortable causing his own chaos than he is with sitting in his own emotions and having to think about them. Because it hurts and he doesn’t want it to anymore but wounds don’t heal by pretending that they aren’t there.

I loved this episode because it touches on self destructive tendencies and depression, because dr wan was right, we are in control if our own life, so we must confront ourselves and better ourselves, this taking responsibility for our own actions and do better

Out of all therapists in fiction the Dr Wong has to be one of if not the best one

the reaction to this episode is what really convinced me that a large vocal part of the audience only tuned in when rick was speaking and actively tuned out every other character. it felt like people worked under an assumption of that if rick is a protagonist he must always be the smartest most correct character despite the show repeatedly saying otherwise. the notion that being smart justified being an asshole really built up large parts of the fandom that saw their own similarities to and idolization of rick as a positive thing again despite the show actively telling you being like rick or idolizing him is bad.

the fact that the very next line completely tears apart that first line and really grounds the world and characters, and people chose to instead to close their ears and sing la la la la makes me feel so bad for the writer Jessica Gao

this episode and the "perfect toilet" episode (I can't remember the actual name) REALLY slap in your face how genuinely depressing this show actually is? I couldn't keep watching it.

I had to step back from a lot of adult animation because of this. People saw Rick (and Bojack Horseman) as aspirational, or as something that makes their bad behavior acceptable. I couldnt handle having discussions about the shows and people reading them as heros instead of seeing them as the "villans".

Also Beth and Jerry fixing their marriage and actually loving each other is such a fresh breath of fresh air, I’m so tired of cartoon shows making parents hate each other 😭

My child was complaining about homework being boring and I immediately thought of this episode and repurposed the therapists speech to talk about maintenance activities
