It appears that Jiang is not familiar with this topic. He is stretching to speculate. He is a Canadian who studied western history but not a China expert. Living in China for a few years doesn't give Jiang the credentials to answer every question about China. According to Jiang's speculation, local officials lie to inflate population to get federal funds. But population inflation makes per capita GDP lower, indicating the local officials' incompetence. Why is inflating population a good incentive for the local officials?

This is where Jiang is wrong. There is no incentive for local government to lie. Local government want to be promoted and their performance are based on many factors. Many of these factors are based on per capita and inflating the population will make their performance worse.

I have watched few of the hosts’ video clips. He is very anti China so I think the interview could be manipulated. I just want to hear neutral opinion otherwise it could be a chaos if you misunderstand and underestimate whatever you want to call China.
