Gods, there is something about the flicker of his eyes in that brief pause after Louis calls him 'Arun' the first tome. It always feels almost like Louis slapped him, like he was expecting one thing and got another and instead of risking being left he just... shifted gears. Let himself be shoved into the mold of what he thinks Louis wants, makes himself seems like something controllable and precious to be cared for. (I am convinced that this is partly why Armand regards and treats Claudia the way he does. He wanted to be adored and powerful and romantic and haunting to Louis and instead, in many way, he treats him like Claudia. "Imagine me without the burden of her" Louis says and I think Armand hears what he will become to Louis, hears their future, and it breaks him a little.)
