In germany we get two versions of a sick note one with the reason as code for yourself and one without the reason for the employer. I accidentally send the one with the reason once in and they literally made me aware that I send the one with the reason which I don't need as it's none of their business. I was pretty amazed by that guess I found a good one 🥰

I just want to look at it from the other side. Managers don’t trust employees in cases like this because many people would take a fake sick leave right before a planned vacation. And that’s a fact, people do it, you can’t deny it. That’s why sometimes I understand why managers have very limited trust.

Meanwhile, my employee reported sick. We live almost nextdoor, so I simply asked if she would allow her kids to carpool with us to school and back, so she can rest. If you hire someone, you need to be able to trust on them. I trust on them 100% and they know I'm also there for them.

My boss once confronted me because I had pre-scheduled sick days for the two days after July 4. He was embarrassed when I explained I had scheduled surgery for the day before July 4 purposely so I could have some recovery and be back to work the following week.
