A long word of advice for those who wish to read, based on my interpretation of the poem. It’s an odd feeling to have both a healthy amount of pride and confidence in your character and strength, yet simultaneously feel permanently broken or flawed in a particular way. However, remember that self-awareness of this state is the first step toward fixing it and achieving self-actualization. It’s the first step toward accepting yourself and growing through the sickness that consumes you. You might have become attached to this sickness because it feels like it’s what you deserve, or perhaps because you find comfort in it. Alternatively, the flaw might have helped you overcome other challenges, and you rely on it now. It’s natural to become accustomed to living with this specific weakness, and you’ll grow attached to it. It feels like no matter what you do to rid yourself of it or fight it, it’s a part of your character, and overcoming it would be like losing an essential part of yourself. For me, my sadness has become a safe place, and I’m attached to it, making it hard to let go. Try to view it as a lifelong journey to accept and outgrow whatever your sickness is, rather than fighting it or beating yourself up over it. You’ll only hurt yourself and, perhaps, others in the process. We can’t expect it to go away overnight. Try to accept its existence and become aware of how it influences your actions, behaviours, and thoughts. Accept that a path leading you away from this ailment truly exists. It won’t be easy, and many who consider taking this path will shy away from it. But if you choose it and persevere through the long and arduous journey, you’ll look back and realize that without facing this immense challenge, you learn a lot about yourself and expand on what you thought was possible for you. You’d have proven to yourself that you’re stronger than you ever thought possible. If you were born without this flaw, you wouldn’t have had to learn how to overcome it. And sure, that part of you will change or be lost in the process, and you can mourn that loss accordingly, but change is one the only things I am sure exists in our lives. Nothing lasts forever.
