@coltenbarnaby: A theologian who believes in universal salvation, and a politician who believes in prison abolition are the first people to be written off in contemporary discourse. Both positions are taken to be deeply unserious. Naive about human nature or soft on sin. But according to some of the church’s best and most respected theologians the logic that undergirds both the carceral state and the doctrine of eternal conscious torment radically misunderstands the nature of God and the telos of humanity. I think they should be viewed as heretical for Christians to support. After all, what could be a worse heresy than declaring God to be evil and his creation to be dispensable? #christiantiktok #hell
