This special session was a disgraceful misuse of your taxpayer dollars. The governor is clearly upset because the Legislature rightfully revoked his illegal $50,000 salary raise, and now he's scrambling to circumvent the law by creating unnecessary committees. This reckless conduct, accompanied by deliberate misinformation, must stop. As your senator, I will not stand by silently while government resources are wasted on redundant sessions discussing bills already preempted, especially if one of those bills is mines that i continue to work diligently on. I openly challenge the governor's attempts to undermine the authority of established boards. It's time he sets aside personal grievances and focuses on his real duties serving the people of the Virgin Islands. Let's prioritize our community, not political self-interest. For clarity, in 2001, Act 6488 was enacted, allowing government employees to run for office while retaining their employment. However, in 2002, this law faced legal challenges in court, resulting in a ruling that mandated consistency with the federal Hatch Act. Consequently, in 2003, through Act 6634, the law was reinstated to align with the court's opinion.
