The first statement was, in the 1970s. It's 2026 now, does this observation or experiment this still apply?

Is that really the whole story though? couldn't it be that the people that thought they had the scar acted differently because they thought they still had the scar and so the people that they were speaking to also really did act differently as a reaction to the awkwardness of the person that thought they had this scar?

Please be careful with the information you share. In the Kleck and Strenta study, there weren’t two distinct groups. Everyone was made to believe they had a scar, but the scar was just a makeup effect that was removed before they went out. This means the study didn’t compare a real scar group to a no-scar group. It only shows how expectations and self-perception shaped behavior. Because of that, it’s really important not to assume we could use a similar experiment to understand racism. Racism is a structural, deeply entrenched issue, and it can’t be reduced to just individual expectation shifts. So, we need to ground any discussion in real, structural evidence, not this kind of experimental parallel.

I consistently remind my granddaughter that we do not know what people are thinking. No matter what we think we know, we don't. Our thoughts about ourselves & others is what is true. Negative thoughts breed more, so do positive thoughts.

Yes, confirms a substantial truth, perception becomes our reality... but it does not change our contextual narratives... like education, health, security and wealth... these narratives provide rigid guardrails and compounding outcomes that lock-in our perceptions!!!!!
