The distinction between words “poison” and “venom” is also just an English language problem. In most languages they’re the same word

In Dutch it's also the same for turtle and tortoise. We just call it schildpad (shieldtoad). We differentiate by saying sea- or land turtle.

It is like how tortoise and turtle are separate words in English but not in Dutch, which always annoyed me until I learned tortoise are technically turtles but not all turtles are tortoise, but it explains why people keep calling sea or freshwater turtles tortoise when they're not 😭 idk how correct this is, please correct me if I am wrong?

A common issue in translation, is that different languages will use different taxonomic ranks as their "normal" words. For example, English considers "squid" and "otopus" as normal words, with "cephalopod" being a "sciency" word, while a typical Sweedish speaker uses "bläckfisk" for all cephalopods, and wouldn't normally know the names for the more specific groups.

I think Capuchins are named after the order of Monks so them being little monks makes some sense to me.

I don't think this helps solve the mystery at all, but there is a group of monks called Capuchin Monks, which is where the name for capuchin monkeys came from. I always thought that was just the Capuchin part though

The word "capuchin" derives from the Order of Friars Minor Capuchin, who wear brown robes with large hoods. When Portuguese explorers reached the Americas in the 15th century, they found small monkeys whose coloring resembled these friars, especially when in their robes with hoods down, and named them capuchins.

Historically we tend to take other language words for the same thing, and repurpose them to mean something slightly different in English, adding nuance to our vocabulary.
