@sayhellomike: Lost my uncle last month and we finally got into the house to start the cleanup. We knew he was a collector, but seeing the scale of it in person is something else. This is going to be a long month. Part 1 of the walkthrough. #hoardercleanout #family #estate #cleaning
what my mom saw when my bed wasn't made and one pencil was left out

that's not going to take a month. I do this for a living and I'm telling you to hire a good realtor if you're planning on selling and they'll do everything for you

Hear me out. Start right there at the front door. grab one item at a time. See if it's anything good and saleable. if not toss it out.
if you have time take your time

I know it seems impossibly overwhelming, but hoarders stash money in odd places (books, laundry baskets, piles of magazines, freezer, etc)

We had to do this a year ago. found so many antique and heirlooms. threw most of things away but took the time to go threw it all. it was fun and gross at the same time. good luck! 🙏

If you plan to go through all of that in a month, you're going to need to do 12 hour days every day for at least the initial swoop of clearing quantity. Find every friend or family to help even just lugging stuff out to the driveway so you can make "Free" piles of stuff you don't want to be bothered with, as well as dumpstering the actual trash. That should take the volume of stuff down at least 50% where then you can spend time actually seeing if there's anything of sufficient value ($ or sentimental) to take next steps on. If not, haul it outside, box it up ,and call a charity like Salvation Army or Purple Heart to come pick it all up

I'm so sorry for your loss. Dealing with an inherited hoard is hard when you're already hurting too. Our family has one handle too--it's an experience that cannot be explained. Sending much support
