Makes a lot of sense. I find myself in this never ending cycle of searching for the “right” answers but always coming up empty handed. Makes it really hard to live a fulfilling life when everything you do or think has an asterisk next to it.

I actually find it comforting rather than threatening. It makes me feel more connected to my humanity and all that were before me.

The more perspectives the better, the truth will slowly reveal itself by its diversity and therefore the unity of humanity as a whole.

Alex O’Conner is one of the most brilliant minds out there. His humility, respect, honesty, and civility with which he conducts himself, especially with people he disagrees with is admirable.

It makes sense but it also seems there’s a next chapter…something new where we find the beauty and meaning in the diversity.

I think that the current world is so cool and has broadened my understanding, while simplifying it at the same time. we are all just people, trying to do the best we can for our family and personal experiences.

Actually - his point that the telecommunications to a global world of diverse cultures - slightly falls when placed in the context of AI and targeted marketing and referrals which narrow that bandwidth of divergence to something more compatible and mostly in alignment with a little stretch now and again for expansion or restriction - like a sweet spot for human daily functioning /

It’s an interesting thought, and certainly seems to have some explanatory power. Do we really know that modern humans have these crises more than in the past, though? I’m often skeptical of things that we only started attempting to track in the last century, especially when they’re inherently subjective and criteria has evolved

I love Alex, and I think there is merit to his theory. I’d add to it, that as a society we’ve never been more wealthy and had the choice to spend our time doing things that aren’t purely necessary for survival like getting food shelter and clothing. Being faced with so many choices and so much time, we haven’t learned to cope with the freedoms so many of us have in the modern world.

the crisis of meaning today isn’t because life has no meaning it’s because meaning is no longer handed to us. We have to construct it ourselves, and that’s both the challenge and the opportunity.

I don’t think I disagree, but ALSO I’m able to find so much beauty in the diversity, in both the overlaps and the contradictions, that I’m not sure this hits for me. I’m comforted enough that humans will be telling stories for a good long while after me, and there’s a chance that at least some of the details will stay the same, even if by and large they’re not MY stories.

I've had this bouncing around in my head, but he worded it so well. I think this can offer so much freedom for us to live our lives as authentically as possible. A smorgasbord of perspectives and life choices that may work for one but not another.

it's weird bc it's the fact that I know I've been exposed to so much that makes me more sure of what I believe in but also less able to explain it bc it's not a religion or a group project at all. it's my own personal beliefs and I'm comfortable w that.

It’s because every day we see Israel putting bullets in the heads of children or watching doctors and nurses being pulled, still zip-tied, from mass graves outside Gaza hospitals, or the torso of a young girl hanging from a wall, or Lebanon being bombed, hundreds of journalists murdered. And our media just lies about it. I think that’s it
