My favorite description of divorce is that divorce is the pain you go through to end the suffering. In my case, the majority of the pain was measured financially. I just wanted out. I have a great deal of empathy for people navigating through a divorce, they're never easy.

Been through both by mid 30s. Divorce pain can be relentless for years especially with children involved. Death of your spouse is brutal and worse than a simultaneous kick in the gut and family jewels. The pains are quite different and I don’t see how any comparison is valid.
