This is such a North American issue, I never heard of the word Zabiha until recently. In the UK, eating halal is the default. I wouldn't think to ask such a question as I would assume a muslim would only eat halal.

I think the confusion comes from the fact that people in America understand “halal food” differently. If someone tells me, “I eat only halal,” I automatically assume they mean halal‑slaughtered meat. I’m Moroccan and from Europe for us, halal always means halal‑slaughtered meat. Honestly, I didn’t even know there was a difference between “halal” and “zabiha.” That’s why I wouldn’t realize someone might mean something else. And of course it’s a deal breaker for me. I wouldn’t want to be with a man who eats meat that isn’t halal‑slaughtered. Apparently that specific type of halal slaughter is called zabiha.

To be honest, sometimes a new relationship can expose a new deal breaker of yours 🤷🏻♀️. I’ve entertained the idea of a relationship with someone thinking i could compromise on something, just to realize that It bothered me more than I thought 🤷🏻♀️

To counter the point about discussing this in the very beginning, if you're Zabiha halal only, is it something you even bring up if your mindset is that it's the only correct way? I'm from the UK and had never heard of Zabiha because we were bought up that food is Halal or it's not, I'd never even think to ask if someone was Zabiha

I disagree about it being discussed at the beginning. I have only heard of Americans having an issue with halal meat consumption.. If someone says they are muslim and practising then the absolute bare minimum woukd be they eat halal meat. inconceivable that they wouldnt . no one in the Uk would eat non halal unless they are a deviant.

I think this is a little unfair/unrealistic. The whole point of talking/dating is to explore whether or not you work with someone. They might have thought they could make it work but then realized the practicalities of different diets was more annoying than expected. Or this particular person just wasn’t worth it. Or maybe it was indicative of more fundamental faith differences. I’m sure it’s disappointing when a match you put thought into doesn’t work out, but it’s not fair to assume that every time it doesn’t work out it’s because candidates weren’t honest enough in the beginning. (I absolutely love your content and your directness so responding here in kind, not meant as snarky criticism, just honest response)

Arent there halal options of buchers out there? Like, I live in Belgium Europe. I only eat hallo meat when I go out. So if the resto guarantees me that all meat is halal, I will eat meat. If its not provided, I eat Fish or veggie option. Like...come on yall.
