In before comments from men proving my poin, saying, "not all men", "this is a bit of a stretch", "this is pretty generalised", etc. Patriarchy is very culturally saturated, complex, & very nuanced to everyone who has been raised under its system. No one is devoid of misogyny. And each of us have a duty to unlearn its harmful, degrading, exploitative, and often violent rhetoric and consequences. I can't trust any dude who calls himself a feminist. Women have to give you that title willingly and of their own volition. if a lady isn't going out of her way to tell me how much of a feminist a guy is, then I will consider it unearned. Same goes for myself. I won't use that word to describe myself, but ive women call me a feminist and I'll accept it from them gratefully

Yep. I gave up attending lots of leftist groups due to the sexism. I was often the only woman and only disabled person and instead of my voice being seen as a chance to illuminate blind-spots, my voice was seen as a hindrance. So I ditched the organisations to focus on direct community work and living what I preach.

Hard agree, especially as someone who grew up in a low socioeconomic background, there are heaps of things I’ve had to correct over the years. And despite being woke af atm, i’m still bettering myself and calling out what i see (and being open to what I don’t see, and weigh them to my morals)

As a guy who grew right wing then slowly left leaned as I started to challenge my beliefs and the messages I was shown, it feels kinda freeing to actually face how these structures have affected me (as man) both positively and negatively.

100% agree. I have made big efforts in my life to stop taking up space in conversations about leftist and progressive goals and just listen to people in marginalised communities when they speak about what they think needs to change. when my own personal hypocrisy is pointed out I resist the urge to get defensive and argue and try to figure out how to do better.

Okay so like I 100% agree that I almost certainly have some more misogyny, racism, internalised phobias, whatever - to unlearn - my own mental health (therapy, healing my own trauma, becoming a more rounded person), and undermining capitalism (both of which will ultimately lead to reduction of gender inequality, in my personal mind and societally - respectively, they'll just be doing so indirectly) are way higher priorities for me. There aren't enough hours in a day to actively work on every prejudice everyone is trained to have. We need to normalise being proud of, and praising the behaviour of "trying" (and i mean actually trying not just saying you are). Because noone is fucking perfect and we all have a LOT of bullshit to deal with.
