@adhdvision: You're not imagining it. There's a real reason. Here's what's actually happening 1. Your brain finally has the right amount of stimulation ADHD brains struggle with understimulation, not distraction. Driving gives just enough input: light movement predictable visuals low-stakes decision making That keeps the "restless" part of your brain busy - so your thoughts can flow. 2. It quiets the mental noise When you're sitting still, your brain fills the silence with: intrusive thoughts overthinking self-monitoring ("am I talking too much?") Driving occupies that background noise. Less mental clutter = clearer thinking. 3. No forced eye contact = less social pressure 00 For us, eye contact can be cognitively expensive. In the car: you don't have to perform you don't have to read micro-expressions you don't have to manage body language Your brain can focus on meaning, not masking. 4. Time feels contained (no time blindness) A drive has: a clear start a clear end a natural flow That structure makes it easier to: stay on topic go deep finish thoughts without interrupting yourself 5. Parallel activity = safer vulnerability Talking while doing something else feels less intense. Less emotional spotlight → more honesty. That's why ADHDers: open up in cars process emotions better have "life talks" on night drives * It's not random. It's regulation. So if you've ever thought: "Why can I explain my feelings perfectly while driving... but not face-to-face?" Now you know Your brain isn't broken. It just communicates best when it's regulated. Save this. Send it to someone you've had a car-therapy session with. Side note: 1 helped build an app around this exact concept - giving your brain enough stimulation to calm the noise and unlock focus. It's linked in my bio if you're curious.
