In metaphysics, the soul is often seen as the deeper essence or being of a person, while the brain is the physical tool that allows that person to think, feel, and interact with the world. So, brain damage changes how the brain perceives and how the soul is expressed, not necessarily the soul itself.

Good point. This is the way I see it. Your immaterialism soul determines who you are, but it needs a material medium to express itself in a material world. That material medium is the brain… the interface between your immaterial consciousness and the material world. This material medium had limitations… including the potential to have memories get hard reset, get unable to process thoughts due to chemical stimulation etc.

Your soul and your personality are two different things. Personality is a mix of everything you've learned, who you grew up around and what you've been through. If soul and memory were tied then you would remember everything the moment you were born.
