As someone who has seen his work in person, the pictures do not do it justice. When you see them in person, the colors are so intense they fuck with your eyes and create an optical illusion which the camera just doesn’t pick up.

Honestly, I actually find it rather sad that something like this is immediately marketed as a work of artistic genius. Not even because it’s simple, but because it feels like you’re expected to find it brilliant — otherwise you just “didn’t get it.” To me, it has less to do with art and more with the pressure to admire something.

"his story" genuinely who gives a fck? a result is a result. if a person scores badly on a test because he didn't get enough time to study, ok? you still answered the questions wrong? sure, we can acknowledge and even appreciate your struggles even if they didn't contribute to us in any means, there's still no reason to appreciate a painting. a painting is good and a painting is bad, there's really nothing else that should define it other than your eyes, not your mind, heart or anything else

I am a trained eye in this field and I think this is not about his talent or his story. I think tax avoiders choose a name and that name becomes some kind of cryptocoin brand for them and work on it. It is him now for reasons which will never be revealed.

People are so focused on the price of the piece that they refuse to engage with the art, yeah no shit 70 million dollars is an exorbitant amount of money, but it isnt like the man was going out and saying "pay me millions for my art" instead is the art community that gave the appraisal to the prices that results in the prices you see, but ffs stop focusing on the price for once and try to appreciate the history and art, you are allowed to dislike it but man do these conversations always end in the same points of discussion.

My aunt had a Rothko print in her living room. Boring and stupid I thought. But day in and day out I would stare at it. After school doing homework, watching cartoons, or even stuck on the couch using the nebulizer. It was captivating and evoked emotions I didn’t understand. I don’t remember anything else from that living room.
