that way of thinking would work if businesses actually provided appropriate raises, opportunities, and benefits but they don't. They pay you the bare minimum they can get away with most of the time and the raises almost never match what a job swap can get you. If you want me to stay, pay me approximately

I was in my previous company for a year and 8 months and I ask for a raise as they now have me as a manager and they said no within a week I got another job paying 7k more and less stress why would I stay in a position where I’m not valued

The industry has changed change with it. loyalty means nothing nowadays. a 5% raise is not going to keep up with inflation. Keep up-to-date with the market rate of your job and use that to advocate for better pay. if your job is not treating you right and you have the experience see if you can get a better position somewhere else. stay 1-3 years, unless you really like the company.

That’s one explanation. Others are that the company treats its employees badly or that the company isn’t interested in performing well. I’ve experienced that with multiple employers and as soon as it became apparent to me that the jobs weren’t what they were promised to be I started applying elsewhere. I’m not going to waste my time and effort with an employer who isn’t interested in giving the best possible service and I’m definitely not going to tolerate being treated badly.

I'm a nonprofit fundraiser. Average length of job stays is 18 months. (Not us - usually unrealistic expectations from leadership of how much we can raise with 0 support.)

You can't automatically assume a failure if someone leaves fast, but it's definitely something to look into during the hiring process, because in high skill jobs, it could mean failure to meet minimum standards. But it could easily be something else, such as being headhunted, ambition hopping, bad company leadership, bad cultural fit, private reasons forcing an unplanned change etc. I would be more concerned if there is a long term pattern of short employments going back many years. That usually tend to be harder to explain by other reasons than not being good enough or too aggressive job hopping, but still, let the candidate explain. Don't assume you know for certain.

Agree! I worked at a place with 14 hairdressers and had to quit after 2 and a half month. We were 2 apprentices. The other one had what turned out later was some medical issues, and struggled with doing her job, and to make sure she wasn't yelled at for taking a break I did like 50% of her job on top of my 100%. But apparently everything I did was wrong and I was complained about for every single day for 10 weeks straight. I even watered the plants and lit the candles wrong. The part-owner of the salon especially had something out for me. Like I'm sorry I am not able to part myself into 14 invidual pieces? Anyways, the part-owner made one last comment and I was out the next week, and apparently it "came out of the blue" that I quit.

I'm currently unemployed, because I was let go in my previous job after 5 months. I've had a fair amount of jobs - especially over the last couple of years (due to mental health, and one being an incident) - and it's people like that dude who are making me feel the stress. I know I need another job, but I don't know what I want to do, and I don't want another 5-month job on my CV. I need to find something I'm comfortable being in for a few years. Can anyone help me with this, please? Thank you so much

I have a cousin with many freinds in finanance and she told me how that one of her freinds is done for becouse she quit within 2 years of her first job, she said this becouse for the first 2 years they are like seeing if you are able to deal with the work and if you get fired or not, I think what the guy means is how you should not quit if you do not have another job offer/opoturnity at the time as many managers might belive that you where fired or mentally couldn’t deal with the stress, this is for finance though and what I was told from my cousin so do not hold me up on this as it might not be fully true or it might only mean for finance, also sorry for the bad spelling.
