I'm friends with two of my exes. We play dnd on Sundays. We were always friends first. it doesnt feel awkward or anything, we just werent right for each other as romantic partners. my fiancée has never felt threatened by my friendship with them.

It’s the maturity difference of what age you were when you broke up. I think teens and young adults often cannot break up in a way that facilitates a friendship. Mature adults often can, depending on the reason for a breakup. They’re much more seasoned at setting boundaries and keeping them well. Of course this does depend on the individual.
